The After Glow
The After Glow is a holistic dancing club event in the evening with three parts; the entertainment, the food & drink and the night market activities.
The entertainment includes wonderful acoustic live music, Djs that are given free rein to play a mixture of genres in line with each event's intention and organic dance performance, always including some Belly Dance.
An earlier start at 7pm than other club events so attendees can come to the event for dinner, as food has done for centuries, bringing everyone together, making it easy to meet new people.
7.30PM when hopefully everyone's arrived, is when organiser Chelsey introduces the evening, how it started and the ethos of The After Glow; authentic relationships, connection & community.
The main drink at The After Glow is Cacao Hot Chocolate or Cacao Plant Milkshake. Cacao is the raw natural form of Chocolate, before processing. Cacao is full of nutrients and anti-oxidants as well as being a stimulant. Similar to caffeine but affecting the nervous system in a slightly different way. The feeling is deeper, a more embodied experience that relaxes and opens our hearts.
The night market is where Yoga and Massage can be found. This is not your conventional yoga class or massage with relaxing music, these are fun sensational experiences to club music. Get rid of all your preconceptions of what yoga or a massage is and experience the wild side of yoga and massage. You won't be out of place with your yoga leggings, active wear and some body paint! Yoga and Massage make us feel good without putting anything into our body, just by breathing and interacting with others, enjoy!
Other night market activities change according to the specific event and venue. You might come across henna, tarot, new age art, vintage or ethical or handmade clothing, glitter and more.

ALCOHOL FREE, AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS, sober is sexy.
A healthy way of socialising, for healthy happy relationships!
Love your insecurities as much as your securities.
Dance & Play.
The After Glow is not about promoting the t-total life. By removing alcohol, a social norm of socialising in the evening (think about the number of places that stay open late that don't serve alcohol?), this creates space to question and look deeper, at ourselves and society.
What is our relationship with alcohol? How does alcohol play a role in our relationships? Do we feel comfortable socialising and dancing without it? Do we have confidence in our authentic self?
Bring your awareness to your behaviour patterns, routines, habits whatever they may be (not just alcohol).
THE VEGETARIAN AND VEGAN MOVEMENT
The After Glow promotes vegetarianism and veganism. This is not to say that you have to be vegan or vegetarian to attend or that we all 'should' or 'need' to be vegans, although some ecologists would argue we do. The After Glow wants you to try a vegan meal without any preconceptions and prejudices.
The event wants to raise awareness of these movements and issues that they raise about the functions of our society we have become separate and disconnected from. Question the norm of eating meat and dairy with every meal. Question the media and statistics, listen to yourself, you know what is right for you, for your body.
Whether you eat meat or not, feel at one with the animals that share the planet, our environment with us, the environment we came from and will return to. We are part of a natural ecosystem, the lucky winners of the food chain, appreciate our role as stewards of mother earth and it's inhabitants.
"Vegan food makes you feel amazing, lighter and brighter. MORE SPACE FOR FEELING, AND CREATING."
a platform for a creative community
Be a conscious consumer...but know you are not a consumer, you are a creator and what you are consuming or receiving is someone's creativity, their passion, a reflection of them and their outer expression of their experience of life.
Bringing a few local creativities and local businesses together on the night market gives a platform to their services and businesses connecting them through the shared intention of creative change. Chat to them!
Try new things like massage and yoga in a fun environment.
CULTIVATING Community & creative change
A place where you can try alternative ways of connecting with others. Be inspired to discuss and follow your passions; to create the alternative and be the change you want to see in the world.
The intention of the evening hopes to stimulate important conversations that hopefully will expand our individual consciousness and our global consciousness through the new connections, relationships, networks or simply one off powerful encounters experienced from these special conversations and meetings.
Events for everyone, no matter your religion, ethnicity, background, or hair colour.
There is suffering in our world, in our societies, or people we know, in the country and in other countries. We need a real solution to this suffering. Community could be part of the solution to the suffering that comes from lack of connection, from isolation. Communities pull together in times of need but disperse quickly. Facebook has created a sense of community but this needs to be manifested in the physical reality or it too will remain an illusion. Community doesn't mean you have to be friends with everyone, but have compassion and respect everyone, help those who need it and the ability to come together in person to stand by our values not just behind a screen or at a protest but because we want to be together, to unite. To have fun creating alternative networks.
If you’ve ever waited around long enough after the sun sets you’ll know the rippling colours are just as mesmerising as the sunset itself. In this way The After Glow promises to be a glowing event leaving you with no hangover, inspired to follow your passion, with lots of new like minded friends and connections, feeling part of a growing creative community in Leeds, excited to join the creative ripples of change.
The After Glow intends the world, but you the attendees are the ones with the power in your hands.

Holistic is a word that's used a lot - this is the definition: "characterized by the belief that the parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole" .
The start of something, the intention, the creation, is so important it can really affect the whole feeling going forward.
The After Glow, Oct 2015 - Alternative Freshers Club and Night Market @ Live Art Bistro, started out in a very special way.
Chelsey wanted to get lots of people involved so she invited friends and local Leeds creatives to her house, for a Cottage party, to tell everyone the idea of The After Glow to see if I had their support to go ahead with the event. The date chosen was a new moon in October, New Moon's being significant for planting seeds, making changes. Chloe Brotherton did a lovely presentation about this and how it fitted with the intention of The After Glow whilst we shared food from The Real Junk Food Project.
The After Glow wouldn't have started if it wasn't for meeting Chloe Brotherton and Santino Collera and the intention for well-being and community not as strong, within the non-alcoholic club event. Each event since the first has had it's own slightly different theme and intention. Ever since the first event, Chelsey has been lucky to have wonderful friends including Paige Huges and Channy Wild join the journey along the way, who've understood the importance of the event and supported Chelsey.
Sometimes when you're taking on something so big, that's about community, having support from friends felt really important.
